MTN Syria Sponsors the LAU Alumni 2010 Gala Dinner

MTN Syria Sponsored for the 3rd year, the LAU Alumni Association – Damascus Chamber- Gala dinner. The ceremony included a live performance by the pianist Guy Manokian and his band. The Gala dinner took place at Sheraton Damascus Hotel – Omayyad ballroom- on Thursday 20th May 2010.

The sponsorship further emphasizes MTN's role in supporting higher education and its importance as turning point in the youth's life. The Alumni Gala dinner is an opportunity members to meet and enjoy a spectacular musical evening, and to support LAU students financially by benefiting from the event's returns.

MTN Syria supports women's role by participating in the Arab International Women Forum

MTN Syria's Participated the Arab international women forum under the title (Prosperity through Partnership: Women Leaders in Modern Syria, the Arab World and the International Community), the forum was organized by Business Women Committee at Damascus Chamber of Commerce, Syria, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour.
The forum took place at the Four Seasons Hotel – Damascus -between 14th and 17th of May 2010, with the attendance of Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban, Presidential Advisor for Political and Media Affairs in Syria, president of Damascus Chamber of Commerce, The Resident Representative of UNDP in Damascus, experts and business women from Syria and other countries.
The participation of MTN Syria comes under its belief in women's active and main role of development in different communities, MTN also aimed to highlight the successful activities of Syrian women in various fields, and to ensure supporting and developing women in particular social issues which some societies are still facing till nowadays.

As part of 21 Days of Y'ello Care! MTN Syria launches Habib Hasoun School's football field in Latakia

As a part of MTN's 21 days of Y'ello care programme, MTN Syria renovated the football field of Habib Hasoun's school at Ain Al Teneh village –Latakia province's rural, the renovation took place in the presence of Discover Syria Rally's participants, students and citizens of Ain Al Teneh and MTN's employees. This came in line with MTN's football focus since it is the official sponsor of the World Cup FIFA 2010.

The renovation of the football field aims at encouraging students to practice sports, especially football, the worlds' favorite game.

Habib Hasoun School is one of the main schools in the area; it includes students of elementary, intermediate and high school grades. Many sports and cultural events are held at Habib Hasoun School.

MTN Sponsors Discover Syria Rally for the 8th year

MTN Syria sponsored Discover Syria Rally for the 8th year. The 2010 Rally edition witnessed the participation of 75 Arab and foreign teams and 15 motorcycles. Discover Syria Rally took place between 12th and 15th of May 2010.

MTN sponsorship of Discover Syria Rally aims at highlighting the Syrian historical and tourist treasures in a sportive competition that any person can participate in and enjoy.

A number of celebrities in music and sports enjoyed the experience of Discover Syria Rally which was organized by the Syrian Automobile Club (FIA, CIK member) and under the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism.

MTN launched its annual 21 days of Y'ello care

MTN Syria started its annual CSR programme 21 days of Y'ello care that took place between 1st and 21st of May 2010 and was carried throughout all MTN Group's operations. This year, MTN focused on three main focal points, health, education and football.

MTN group chose the three focal points for their importance among societies and to highlight many concerns in some countries such as Malaria and lack of education, in addition to football for being FIFA 2010 World Cup's main sponsor.

MTN considers 21 days of Y'ello care an important annual CSR programme for focusing on community's essential needs and offering collaboration to answer these needs. MTN group believes in the importance of the private sector's role toward society.

MTN Syria attends the South African's Freedom Day

MTN Syria attended the celebration of South African Freedom day organized by the Embassy of South Africa in Damascus, the celebration took place at Cham Palace Hotel on April 27th 2010.
MTN Syria represented the Group in this celebration since it is a South African company operating in the local Syrian market.

MTN Syria Sponsored the 13th Arab Businessmen and Investors Conference (Damascus)

MTN Syria sponsored the 13th Arab Businessmen and Investors Conference between the 3rd and 4th of March 2010. The conference was organized by Arab League, Syrian Union of Chambers of Commerce, General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture for Arab Countries and the Arab Investment and Export Credit Guarantee Corporation .

The conference aims at briefing Arab businessmen and investors on the positive developments in the national economy and business environment in Syria, in addition to the current and the possible economic and investment opportunities in the Syrian economic sectors.

Many Syrian and Arab organizations will participate in the conference, Arab intellectuals and experts in the economic, financial and social fields, in addition to Syrian Ministers who will review successful Arab investment experience in Syria.

MTN to Sponsor the White Christmas Event for Al Farah Choir

MTN Syria celebrated 2009's blessing Christmas by sponsoring a musical event performed by Al Farah Choir entitled "The white Christmas". The event took place at Al Assad Opera House between 14th and 17th December 2009 with the participation of 400 members of the choir who presented most loved Arabic and international songs composed especially for the occasion.
Sponsoring the "White Christmas" event is a greeting from MTN to all Syrians and a support toward culture, art and creativity for MTN's believes in Syrians' artistic talents and to highlight their inventiveness.

MTN Syria and Bank Audi Announced the Launching of the new MTN MasterCard

Bank Audi Syria and MTN Syria have announced their strategic partnership which will consist in launching common products. In this context and for the first time in Syria, Bank Audi Syria, in collaboration with MasterCard Worldwide, has launched the MTNMasterCard International "Platinum" and local "Classic" credit card, a new and unique concept which offers the best of mobile communications and banking services. The new card was launched during a press conference held at the Four Seasons Hotel – Damascus, in presence of Mr. Bassel Hamwi, Deputy Chairman & General Manager of Bank Audi Syria, Mr. Ismail Jaroudi, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Syria, Mrs. Randa Bdeir, Head of Electronic Banking and Business Development at Bank Audi Saradar Group sal, and Mr. Basel El-Tell, Vice-President and Country Manager, Levant - MasterCard Worldwide.

MTN Cancer Research Centre

MTN Syria and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed a "Cost Sharing Agreement" within the context of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). The purpose of the Agreement is to establish "MTN Cancer Research Centre" in Damascus, a joint project between MTN Syria, UNDP and the State Planning Commission (SPC). The "MTN Cancer Research Centre" will answer to a focal need in Syria's health sector by providing registered information and database surrounding cancer cases around the country. The centre will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology to facilitate diagnosing cancer cases on early intervention among men, women and children. In addition, it will assist determining causes, frequency, and geographical distribution and will serve as a national resource of control efforts including epidemiological study, clinical research, and prevention and cessation intervention development.
